What are military dog tags ? Military Dog Tags are small,
rectangular, metal tags worn by military personnel for IDentification purposes.
Worn on a ball chain around the neck, these dog tags are embossed with the wearer's
full name, social security number, blood type and religeous preference.
Different branches of the military will vary somewhat in this data and layout.
How do soldiers wear dog tags ? Soldiers are required to wear
dog tags at all times while in the field. The tags are worn in pairs and
are designed to be easily separated into two individual tags and chains: one can
be collected and used by military staff for processing and the other set remains
attached to the body for identification purposes if the body cannot be immediately
removed from the battlefield.
Who else wears Dog Tags ? Dog Tags began evolving to be used by
civilians after our company put up the first military dog tag site on the Internet
in 1995. These ID tags are now used for many reasons including such areas
as personal identification, medical alerts tags, pet ID tags, luggage tags etc.
Over the twelve years we have been creating and marketing these tags via the internet,
they have now become a fashion accessory for all ages.
What information can be found on soldier's dog tags ? Most branches
of military dog tags bear similar information. In the United States, Air Force
dog tags, USMC dog tags, Navy dog tags, and Army dog tags are embossed with first
name, middle initial, last name, social security number, blood type and religion.
Air Force dog tags may also include "AF" after the blood type to indicate branch of
service, and USMC dog tags also include gas mask size and a red medical tag to indicate
any allergies.
